Players de Noc, Inc. is a non-profit organization made up of a group of theatre enthusiasts dedicated to provide and promote various forms of live theatre for all ages while having fun in the process. Players is supported by ticket sales, contributions from the community, grants and volunteers.
Players produces four full scale shows each season consisting of three dramas and one musical from September through May. Summer productions are geared toward children, high school, and college students. The theatre is handicap accessible and has seating for 240. Players is also fortunate to have a building that houses a workshop, prop area and costume shop. The theatre is housed in the William Bonifas Fine Arts Center building, located at 700 1st Avenue South, in the heart of downtown Escanaba.
Players began in 1964 by performing in restaurants and anywhere they could find someone to let them use space. Props, sets and costumes had to be simple and performances were usually for one night only. In 1974, the William Bonifas auditorium became available for use by Players. Players immediately began renovating and that same year volunteers dug an orchestra pit and built the stage over the pit, creating more working space for productions and providing room for an orchestra during musical productions. Today, after years of renovations to the stage, seating sound and lighting systems, Players de Noc, Inc. takes great pride in presenting quality productions in a comfortable atmosphere.
